Calling it a day.
03.31.04 (8:50 pm)   [edit]
Hey bloggers, yours truly is abt to call it a day. Just off to buy everybody a round at the pub to make up for my shinanigans this morning. Lizzy, the girl I balled-out this morning has finally forgiven me, so all is well again in the AG family. Hopefully, we'll still catch the 2nd half of the Sweden-England match.... probably gonna be packed to the rafters anyway, but we'll find a spot I hope..... (just barge my way thru)

So, footy then off home I think. And like every evening when I get home, I'll pop open my newsreader to browse through the day's news and headlines. Unfortunately, every time I find more and more that disgusts me, outrages me, and quite simply, makes me want to go back to that world of denial and pretending that the world outside my own private little bubble doesn't exist. Cant any more I'm afraid..... I'm now politically minded! (Yeah right, more like a DVD, pizza and a couple glasses of wine!)

So, peeps.... much luv and for those of you with most of the day ahead I say " have a good one" and to those like me, who's day is ending I say " have a good evening, be safe and g'nite".

Peace out y'all, I'm outta here 8)

Children and Love......
03.31.04 (8:18 pm)   [edit]
This was posted a long time ago on the net, where a friend of mine picked it up. I have no idea where it originally came from. It's been bouncing around on my hard drive for a while, and I figured this was as good a time as any to resurrect it. It's a tad long, but worth the read, Enjoy!

Notes on love (by primary schoolchildren)

One of the people has freckles and so he finds somebody else who has freckles too."
Andrew, age 6

Arrghh!! Bloody Mobile Phones!!!
03.31.04 (5:13 pm)   [edit]
Just read Priscagal's blog on "awful ringtones" and apart from it having me crack up with laughter, it also brought home my pet hate abt mobile phones that really gets me peeved! I'm sick of cell phones -- or rather, I'm sick of what we put up with when mobiles are involved. Dont get me wrong, I go everywhere with mine as an earlier blog I wrote would have shown even in the toilet, but we gotta draw the line somewhere, right? :?

What gets to me, is when you are talking to someone and there phone goes off.... they then proceed to pick it up and have a full blown convo, leaving you to hold your dick in your hand and "sing daisy!" At times like that I just want to say "hang up when I'm talking to you!! Get off your damn cell phone. In fact, turn off your bloody phone. Just turn it off, put it down somewhere out of reach, and pay attention to the conversation that you're already invovled in."... I can dream cant I? :P

Personal calls at work on company time? Forbidden, of course -- unless that call comes in on the cell phone at someone's hip. Having a conversation with someone?...... Sorry, hold on, I've got a call. Out at dinner at a nice restaurant? Hope you don't mind sitting there while I chat on the phone. Driving down the motorway at 70 miles an hour in that fuel-guzzling car that's never left the kurb? Perfect time to distract yourself with the phone! Why, for so many people, is everything and I mean everything, put aside when the ringer goes off? You've got voicemail on that thing, right? Good. Then use it when I'm talking to you. I'm standing in front of you, looking you in the face -- that should take precedence.

Expecting an important call? Fine, I can accept that -- use the friggin caller ID to check before answering if you can. If you can't do that, then if an incoming call is not "the call," make your apologies, offer to call back, and hang the fuck up. This is simple stuff, to me at least.....Why doesn't it seem to be for anyone else? :?

If you are using a mobile, think about your behaviour while you're on the phone. It's basically a given that the people around you are going to be able to hear your side of the conversation -- often whether they want to or not. Put some small amount of thought into what those around you are hearing. I've seen businessmen in expensive three-piece suits take a call and immediately turn into a foul-mouthed prep boy talking to whichever friend called, then hang up and turn back to the business conversation as if nothing had happened.

In a noisy environment? Maybe you should find a quiet place for that oh-so-important call then. I don't know how many conversations I've been able to "sit in" on because one or the other party couldn't hear well, so voices were raised, shouting into the phone, apparently under the bizarre assumption that there was some sort of "cone of silence" surrounding them. Here's a hint, folks -- we can hear you. Especially when you're yelling. Goofballs!!

Oh, and just because a phone is on your hip and you have the ability to call someone every time some little thing crosses your brain -- don't. Please don't!! Chances are, it's not that important. If it's really important, you'll know it -- if it can wait, let it wait. I've already lost too many hours to calls that had no real purpose or need, made only because there was no inhibition stopping it. I don't need to lose any more time.....

I'm starting to feel like some sort of freak in today's society. I have a mobile phone, but that's cos it's required for my job (not saying I would have it any other way either!) ..... and paid for by my job, too. I'm just sick to death of seeing people so engrossed in their phones that they neglect everything else.

Sorry about the rant peeps! But please ...... put down that bleeding phone!! Pay attention to the world, or at worst pay attention to me!! Phew!! glad I got that off my chest, just wish the people who do it, especially my colleagues here at work could read this.... maybe not, seeing as I'm still in the dog-house over my outburst this morning!

Later peeps!

Getting Politically Minded!
03.31.04 (3:58 pm)   [edit]
Another political blog I'm afraid. I really have no idea how interesting (or horrendously boring) the sudden proliferation of posts falling into my 'politics' category is (yeah right, I hear you mumble ...seeing as this is only like the 3rd or 4th one!) but in all honesty, it's been all sorts of fascinating for me when I stop to take a step back for a moment and look at myself and how much I've actually changed.

Until recently, I've never been overly politically minded, or even very politically conscious. I knew my general outlook leaned toward the liberal side of things, of course, and I'd occasionally make random grumbling noises when I saw or heard about something that I found excessively stupid or aggravating, but that was generally about the extent of it. For all too much of my life, I lived in something of a bubble of my own creation — I had my world, and my friends, my work and most things outside of that bubble just didn't get much thought.

It was during the 2003 Blair/Bush "War on Terror/WMD's farce" that all this started to change for me. I'd given up trying to figure out politicians quite a long time ago but I judiciously followed all the debates. While Blair wasn't nearly as impressive as I hoped, even then Bush worried me, and I wanted to see if the impressions I'd picked up until that point bore out. Unfortunately, they did — Blair still didn't impress me as much as I hoped, but Bush worried me more and more every time he opened his mouth. I could see an guy set on war at all costs.

Watching the rest of the build-up was an exercise in both fascination and frustration, and by the end when the inevitable happened and we went to war, I more or less threw up my hands in frustration and tuned out again. The political radar was turned off, and I went back into my bubble — not quite as much, though. Too much was happening for me to be able to justify tuning out as much as I used to.

Then came the end of hostilities, and suddenly it was impossible for me not to pay attention anymore. There were times when I wanted to tune out, of course, and some of my friends did just that, but I couldn't do that anymore. Things have gotten too big, too important, not to have some idea of what's happening. I realised that I have a stake in whatever happens both here and abroad!

Suddenly, I'm reading political websites on a regular basis. I'm paying attention to news from all over the world. More than just reading and ranting about things, I'm taking the time to participate when I can by going to chatsites. I'm looking into the various candidates for the 2005 election here in the UK, and am considering which one is worth supporting in more than a "yeah, he seems interesting" lackadaisacal sort of way as I did in the past.

It took me years to get here, but I'm here now. None to sure where the road I've stumbled upon is going to lead, but — as frustrating and frightening as it is at times — I'm really enjoying the new scenery, so to speak. There's a whole world out there that I'm a part of, and it's obviously time for me to start acting like I'm a part of it. I hope this doesn't bore you all too much in the meantime. I promise to still make my usual inane and mundane posts from time to time in the midst of all this.

I'm just becoming a political animal so to speak, y'all should too!

Bad start to the day...
03.31.04 (1:35 pm)   [edit]
Hey peeps, what's shaking y'all? The day couldn't have started on a worse note. Ugh!!…this sucks! I was supposed to be at work early today, so I could leave early (just stuff I need to get done, later on ......... like watch the England V Sweden match on SKY!), so I set my alarm for 5:30am and went to bed.

Then I didn't fall asleep until sometime after 3:20am due to a really, really nasty bout of insomnia. When I eventually got up it was 7:45am, left the house more or less immediately but got in late. Now I cant get off work half hour early, Dammit!! So that's kinda set the tone for my day already!!

Y'all know, there are sometimes, whether or not it's polite, nice or right, whether or not it's "politically correct," you just need to say what you feel, in all its uncensored glory. Well, I felt just like that this morning at a departmental meeting. Now dont get me wrong I'm usually known for saying my mind anyway, but I think I might just have overdone it today....

We were brainstorming on how to get a project that was running behind schedule due to issues with safety, back on track without raising the cost in anyway. When one of my colleagues said summin really naff! (stupid!)... "But we cant solve this problem as is...."

Now remember there were mitigating circumstances for my bad mood, the insomnia and lack of sleep from last night. So I just off the cuff say summin like "The problem with most people is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just shut up and let the problem solve itself then? would that work?" You could actually hear a pin drop after that statement... and I could only look down at my laptop, as the reality of what I'd said sunk in

Let's just say the colleague is giving me the silent treatment and the other guys ... well, I'm thinking a whole lot of grovelling is in order!! I can see myself eating a lot of humble pie today.... So the day hasn't started on a great note, let's just hope it doesn't get any worse!! I'm just off to offer to do the coffee run, see if that will get me any brownie points.... hmmm :?

Famous last words....
03.30.04 (8:40 pm)   [edit]
A political broadcast from the office of The 'Rt. Hon Cyberpal' the MP for the "Thursday Night Drinking Club" in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK ..... just being silly y'all!

But found this in my archive of news snippets I was reading earlier, just goes to show how words have a nasty habit of coming back to haunt ya!

I do not need to explain why I say things. That's the interesting thing about being the President. Maybe somebody needs to explain to me why they say something, but I don't feel like I owe anybody an explanation. — Pres. George W. Bush

And the dude wonders why the shyte is hitting the fan all of a sudden, with all his former co-horts dishing the dirt on his administration!! Might wanna reassess that quote now mighten he? Yo Missa Presido, you are accountable to the electorate and dont you forget it! So get to explaining......

Clubbing!!
03.30.04 (8:28 pm)   [edit]
Y'all need to read this, I was ROTFL!!

So this guy wants to go into a nightclub, but the bouncer says, "Sorry, bud, you need a tie for this place."

He goes back to his car and rummages around, but there's no necktie to be found.

Finally, in desperation, he takes his jumper cables, wraps them around his neck, ties a nice knot, and lets the ends dangle free. He then returns to the nightclub.

The bouncer says "Well, OK, I guess you can come in. But don't start anything."

(Thanks to Ethan for sending me this.)

Potential!!
03.30.04 (8:10 pm)   [edit]
.....Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of the Universe. Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do…we were born to make manifest the Universe that is within us. And as we let our light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we're liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
— Marianne Williamson

Read the above quote somewhere, and thought it was very true too! You can reach far above where you are now.... just know that everyone has inside him/herself a piece of good news! The good news is that you really don't know how great you can be, how much you can love, what you can accomplish, and what your potential is! So realise that potential peeps and dont hold back!!

Cyberpal. :)

George Benson CD!
03.30.04 (3:32 pm)   [edit]
Just got back from lunch y'all, went down to HMV while I was out to get the new George Benson album --"Irreplaceable". Now I'm not prone to plugging anyone on my blogs but today I'm making an exception and turning myself into a Music Whore..... :P This new album is off the hook y'all, take my word for it!!

I heard some of the tracks on this album a few days back and knew there and then that I had to get me some of that! George Benson is one of those artists that has defied all logic over the years when trying to define his style. His ability to fuse Jazz, R'n'B, Soul, Pop, and even Rock seamlessly is his hallmark! That is the Genuis of George Benson!!

At 61, you'd have thought he had little left to prove, especially when you consider that he released his first album way back in 1965. But I for one still remember the great hits like "Give Me The Night", "Turn Your Love Around", "Love Times Love", and "The Greatest Love of All" and this new album isn't far of those great hits either.

Reading the sleeve, I even noticed that my man 'Joe' co-wrote four songs, and writer/producer Joshua Thompson (who's worked with the likes of Alicia Keys, Tyrese, Aretha Franklin and the Temptations) are also involved. So peeps, if you are looking to get into the groove or jazz-up you CD collection... this is one to get!

Now, I know I have unashamedly plugged this and for all you purist out there that might have taken offence I say....... Tough!! :P And seeing as Spring has started in earnest today, here's a piece of GB's lyrics just for y'all!

"...Strollin’ in the park, watching winter turn to spring
Walkin’ in the dark, seein’ lovers do their thing

CHORUS
That’s the time I feel like making love to you
That’s the time I feel like making dreams come true ......

Later peeps :D

Happy Tuesday!!
03.30.04 (12:45 pm)   [edit]
The sun is shining, the weather is mild and things look better today than they did y/day. Didn't get round to watching the Scooby Doo flick as planned, we went for a meal (Indian) instead and postponed it till Thursday or summin. So, I'm afraid no review today....but I'll have one for you on Friday morning prompto!! :D

For some reason woke up feeling really good today, happy even!. Got to work rather early, to find the boss already here (now that is a first, if I say so myself!) We had coffee together.. another first! and just chin-wagged for half an hour. The dude, I must say isn't too bad on days like this... he even seemed human if you can believe that! :P

Got a whole load of meetings, and stuff on the agenda for this afternoon and miracles of miracles... I'm actually looking forward to them! (I swear someone's slipped me a happy pill or summin!) :? But you know what, I like this feeling, so maybe I'll go with it for now.. knowing me tho, it'll probably last till after lunch then the real Cyberpal will resurface.. Hope those of you ahead are having good days, and for those of you behind, well have a good one too!

Now I'm off to check out my fav blogs and post comments :D

All done...
03.29.04 (7:57 pm)   [edit]
I'm all done for the day, just off to see Scooby-Doo II. Not my idea I can assure you, but the guys from work are all going so I thought I might as well tag along and see what's what.

The initial Scooby film was a mildly entertaining way to waste a couple hours when I had nothing to do, but I can't really say much more than that about it..... let's just hope this one is better, although I'm not holding my breath.

I mean come on plotwise — well, it's Scooby-Doo — not exactly a subject known for its in-depth plots. The effects will probably be passable, but barely. I'll be surprised if there is any adult-targeted humour tossed in — enough that I'll be able to giggle (or at least a smirk) from time to time, but not enough that most parents would have problems taking their kids to see it. Well, I'll review it for y'all tomorrow.

Was just pondering how it is that even when I claim that life is boring and I have nothing to do or say about it, I can still fill up pages in this little notebook I call a blog ....about my lack of anything to write about ;) Not like that will come as a surprise to anyone who knows me tho :P

Oh, well. It's a bit before 8pm, and much as it may grate on my nocturnal inclinations, these days that does mean that it's close to bedtime for yours truly. So it's a mad dash to the cinema to catch the next showing of Scooby Doo and then home to bed. Until tomorrow, then (or whenever I get back to scribble in here again)......

Ciao peeps

How personal is your blog?
03.29.04 (5:05 pm)   [edit]
Just remembered this blog from the w/end that I was gonna post but forgot. So here it is.... People blog for different reasons and in most cases pour out their most intimate feelings, emotions, thoughts, opinions, fears, joys, achievements, failures, success's, etc but isn't there a down-side to all this personal laying-bare for all to see? Although my blog is personal, and more often than not about the exploits I get up to, what makes me tick, what I hate, what I like, etc it's still only just a snapshot of who I really am.

Why lay bare your entire life for people to pick over? What if someone you dont want to read it, comes across it... what then? Why did I even think about this? Well, I was just wondering what it would be like if some of my colleagues or my boss ever read my blog... what would theri reactions be? Could I live with the aftershock? Typical example was, me lying to Jenny & Sarah and then admitting as much in my blog. (Now, I know I've already fessed up to them, but what if they stumbled across it before I had?) I'm not sure they would have been impressed....

Here's an example of why my blog isn't more personal:

Let's take a hypothetical scenario of a Boy and girl meeting at a bar, sparks fly. Boy and girl go on date to see a friend of the girl's perform. After said performance, boy and girl go back to girl's house and have light petting session. Before next date, girl does a Google search for boy's name, and finds his blog — In which he's commenting on her lack of ability to kiss and his disappointment in not getting more frisky. *oops*

Girl is upset and talks to her friend from the performance, who writes a column in her blog about the experience. Said column ends up getting posted on another blogsite, and people commenting on the column quickly find the blog in question. Boy finds out about public disclosure of his comments when he starts getting e-mails and comments on his blog and posts. His initial responses — Holy crap!, Double holy crap!!, and Triple holy crap!!! Much discussion ensues. However, from the posts made in Boy's blog since this thing exploded, he seems to be handling his new-found infamy rather well.... but could all have turned out much worse...

You never know who's reading your blog, read so many blogs where people have deluded them selves that x,y or z will never get to see that entry or learn that infidelity and they get so busted!! Just the other day, and guy admits to cheating on his stag night, only for his fiancee to get an anonymous tip off to go check out his blog that he's kept secret from her for months... I guess you can say, the wedding is off!! So personal is as personal gets!!

Sedate day so far...
03.29.04 (4:30 pm)   [edit]
I'm so bored peeps! It's been a rather mundane day so far, and I am feeling a bit sleepy. Unfortunately, falling asleep at two in the morning doesn't exactly help ensure a quick up-n-at-'em in the morning. I didn't get to work late or anything, but I sure didn't hop out of bed as quickly as I do when I crash out at 11pm. Anyway, once I'd got to work, things have been pretty sedate from the onset, which didn't do a whole lot to help my mood. I'm just glad I don't get hangovers like I used to — a few martinis, and a couple of glasses of wine I drank last night probably wouldn't be enough to trigger one anyway, but you never know, right?

Lunchtime's rolled by, I headed down to Tony's to pick up a sandwich — only to find out that my choice was not there! So I had to make do with a pasta salad... yuk!! what was I thinking?! So much for healthy eating!! :x So now y'all up to date with my day so far I'll just piss off and try to act like I'm doing some semblance of work here! It's gonna be a hard ask, but I'll try.... anybody know what I can do to banish the sleep demon? :?

One very cool weekend!!
03.29.04 (2:00 pm)   [edit]
It's Monday afternoon, and I'm already reminiscing abt the w/end, hope this isn't the tone for the week? I guess that's just cos this weekend was all sorts of fun — about time, right? :) Not that I've been having bad weekends or anything.....his one just had a bit more to it.

Did everyone remember to set their clocks back on Sunday?

Last night did the funk/soul night thingy.... to be honest I was pleasantly surprised, thought it was gonna be a bunch of anoraks and oldies but was a very mixed crowd! Sarah & Jenny came down too after they'd finished checking out a few places in the afternoon. I actually came clean and confessed to them, funnily enough they weren't too bothered.... they had assumed I was watching the footy all along!

So we spent a couple hours going through the 60's scene, one thing I must say is I never thought you could have so much fun jiving to music I'd never heard before in some cases. On a whole was a really good night, even met a few people who I might be tempted to give a call sometime just to hook up! Since we we're all novices bare one person, it was a lot of fun — especially as none of us were around during the time nor know a lot about the genre!

After a few hours I left, Heather, Ryan & Jenny caught a ride with me....brought some Thai food, and we kicked back at mine for a couple of hours and I introduced Jenny to the Clerks: Uncensored DVD. She'd never seen the animated show before, and we had a blast watching it. Omigod, Bear is driving — how can that be?!?!? :?

So, that pretty much wraps up the weekend — Chilled, went out, friends showed up, and it was just a lot of fun. Very, very cool. Now... I'm back at work…. :(
More to write abt later, I think I shall retire now, for a spot of lunch..... a rocket and crayfish sandwich maybe?? :P

"Rowan" own goal!!
03.28.04 (7:09 pm)   [edit]
Read this lill' titbit in the Sunday Papers today, and just thought wtf?? Just goes to show how much the Church is out of touch with the real world! Not anti-church, just anti-hypocrisy. Here's the excerpt from The News of the World:

....The Archbishop of Canterbury has launched an amazing attack on 'Footballers' Wives' (UK drama series). Rowan Williams says the ITV1 show- which stars Zoe Lucker, highlights the greed, treachery and adultery that corrupts society. He said it is a world where "charity and fairness and generosity are swept aside"....

Duh!! I say welcome to the real world your Grace!! Which world does he live in? The one that is Charitable, fair and generous?? Talk about being out of touch with reality!! Then they wonder why everyday, would-be parishioners leave the Church in droves? If the guys at the top, cant see the world we live in, what hope is there? Wake up sir, that's exactly what the world today is all about!!

Now dont get me wrong, the programme is a bit over the top... but is close as can be to the life these over-paid, pampered stars live in.

Just Chillin...
03.28.04 (6:47 pm)   [edit]
It's about 6.30pm, just finished watching the Arsenal/Man United match..... so I'm guessing y'all know by inference that I ditched Jenny & Sarah  Let's just hope they never read this blog, cos my excuse was that I didnt wake up till gone 4pm hence my not getting back to them on time to go flat hunting! (I know, I know I could have just said I had other plans or summin, but I just didnt need the agro of having to explain that footy is more important than traipsing around town on a Sunday afternoon. :P )

Oh! yeah, btw Newcastle lost to Bolton :( Wtf?? we beat Mallorca 7-1 on aggregate mid-week only to lose against Bolton who are minnows compared to them... Come on you 'Magpies' let's get with the program here!! On an aside, was good to see Arsenal secure the record of the longest unbeaten run in the Premiership by holding Man United to a 1-1 draw. Sorry to all yoiu guys who hate footy but just had to blog about it!

So I'm abt to get ready to go boogie at the 60's soul/funk night with the guys, but I'm gonna make sure I'll be home early..... cant go without my beauty sleep again tonight, early start in the morning. So I've just been chillin, watching the footy, having a lazy one today. Hope you guys are having a great w/end too? :D

Dilemma.....
03.28.04 (2:51 pm)   [edit]
It's Sunday afternoon, and I have just finished reading the papers, as well as a breakfast (or should I say brunch) of toasted crossiants, jam and peanut butter, topped with two cups of coffee... hmm scrumptious!! :P After waking up around 11am I just dinked around the flat and killed time for a while. It was only when I switched on the TV that I realised that the clocks had gone forward today... Apparently spring is here now (not that you'd notice any difference!) :? I've plans to go out this evening, but the first thing is how I can cry-off from this flat hunting thingy I'm supposed to be doing with Jenny and Sarah...

They've already called me this morning and left a message, supposed to meet them around 2.30 somehere, but here's the thing - my beloved Newcastle are playing today at 2.00pm and it's on TV (pay-per-viewe), how am I gonna get out of falt hunting?? My sole excursion out today was supposed to be to walk down the hill to the shops to get the papers and the crossaints, that's all..... Any ideas y'all??

Well, I've gotta go take a quick shower, and decide either way what I'm gonna do abt Jenny & Sarah..... I'll fill you in when I've decided. Peace peeps!

Till tomorrow.....
03.27.04 (9:52 pm)   [edit]
Just tossing a quick entry in before I log-off for the night. England's playing France at the mo in the RBS 6 Nations Championship and the scores are 8-0 in favour of the frogs!! It's Saturday evening and I'm in chill-out mood so don't want to spend too long here, but I thought it would be good to get a little bit in here so I'm not completely out of date

Spent most of today just kicking back and relaxing at home. I was thinking about wandering around the block earlier, and had actually made it out the door when I stopped to chat with Damon (my next-door neighbor). While he and I were talking, who should walk up the hill but Jenny and Sarah(Colleagues from work, Sarah being 'that Girl') — they knew I lived around that area, but were just randomly wandering through while apartment hunting for Jenny when they saw me standing there talking.

So, I've ended up arranging to spend the whole of 2moro wandering around with the two of them, apartment hunting for Jenny!! wtf?? Might also be catching up with Ryan & some other folks in the evening, for some drinks and 60's funk/soul before we call it a night! So I guess I know what I'm upto 2moro! Not that I didnt have a busy day planned already you know.... was supposed to — sit at home, play with my mixing equipment, read the Sunday Papers, watch some more sport, and do laundry..... I know — tough stuff! but bang go those plans now!

Well, peeps have a great w/end y'all and hopefully I'll have more to blog about 2moro. Peace y'all :D

What a few days.....
03.27.04 (7:31 pm)   [edit]
....It's been. Hey peeps! :D Well, it has been an eventful few days. I guess I better address the burning question first.. which is have I been drunk the last couple of days or was I abducted by aliens hence my lack of blogs?... I wish either was the case, I have just been working my arse off that's all! :( Thursday evening went with a bang, but I came down to earth with a big thud! on friday!.... The boss had somehow found out abt the session on Thursday, and I guess was a bit peeved that he hadnt been invited so more or less made our lives hell thru out y/day at work! Literally, hovered around all day to make sure yours truly didnt get a sniff at the internet let alone blogging of any kind!
[LINE]

Friday evening I went to the "Joe Concert" in Birmingham, so I left work pretty early with the guys for the drive down. I was designated driver so I just had to have a good time without the added fun of having a drink or two on the way down! The concert was fantastic and was good to see some of my buddies who came up from London too. Was actually the first time my work colleagues and friends had got together like that and let's just put it this way..... a few hook-ups were the end result! :P
Drove back to Newcastle in the early hours of this morning, seeing as we ended up doing the rounds of a few bars and clubs in Birmingham after the gig!
[LINE]

Got up late this afternoon, went down to the "greasy spoon" for a late brunch and to get the papers before heading back home to settle in for a saturday filled with rugby and footy on the box! :) Just so you know, nothing beats a day filled with Sport on the box!! absolutely nothing!! Loads of stuff to do this w/end but whether or not they will get done.... hmm your guess is as good as mine!

Can't believe I almost forgot to say anything about this — my little cuz turns 25 today! Wow…that's kind of frightening. But cool, too. Happy b-day, Cuz!!

Now I'm just waffling, so I'll stop here and go check out what I've missed so far. But as the saying goes "... i'll be back!" Ciao peeps..... :P

Drinking time...
03.25.04 (9:00 pm)   [edit]
That's me done for the day... I dont want to be late for the inaugural meeting of the Thursday Evening Drinking Club! The funny thing is tho, due to my propensity for loquaciousness and paranthetical diatribes (I talk a lot for those who didnt get that!)... I'm tempted to stay on a little bit longer. Luckily, my thirst and desire to get legless has overcome it! :P

As usual, it's been a blast y'all! Btw, More and more it looks like my target date for leaving really is going to be June 15th — I'm (quite intentionally) making sure I've got all my loose ends tied up here, so that it's difficult for me to back out, just in case I get a last minute case of the heebie-jeebies.... so look out Texas here I come!! :P

Have a good day peeps, and if ya in my neck of the world have an even better evening...... peace out!!

Wise words....
03.25.04 (8:37 pm)   [edit]
I normally delete just about every piece of random e-mail I get (and I get a lot), but I got one today that I actually thought was worth sharing…however, rather than send it out to everyone on my e-mail address book (which, to be honest, I find incredibly annoying much of the time), I thought I'd just post it here. So, here ya go!

THINGS I WISH I'D KNOWN BEFORE I WENT OUT IN THE REAL WORLD

1. Any and all compliments can be handled by simply saying Why, thank you (though it helps if you say it with a Southern accent).

2. Some people are working backstage, some are playing in the orchestra, some are on stage singing, some are in the audience as critics and some are there to applaud. Know who, and where you are!

3. Never give yourself a haircut after three margaritas.

4. When baking, follow directions. When cooking, go by your own taste.

5. Never continue dating anyone who is rude to the waiter and doesn't like dogs/cats. (hmpf!) :?

6. Good sex should involve laughter. Because think about it, it really is funny.

7. You need only two tools. WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the tape.

8. The five most essential words for a healthy, vital relationship: I apologize and You are right.

9. Everyone seems normal until you get to know them.

10. When you make a mistake, make amends immediately. It's easier to eat crow while it's still warm.

11. The only really good advice that I remember my mother ever gave me was, Go! You might meet somebody!

12. If he/she says that you are too good for him/her — believe it.

13. I've learned to pick my battles; I ask myself, Will this matter one year from now? How about one month? One week? One day?

14. Never pass up an opportunity to pee.

15. If you woke up breathing, congratulations! You have another chance!

16. Living well really is the best revenge. Being miserable because of a bad or former relationship just might mean that the other person was right about you.

17. Knowing how to listen to music is as great a talent as knowing how to make it.

18. Work is good but it's not that important.

19. Never underestimate the kindness of your fellow man.

20. And finally…be really nice to your friends. You never know when you are going to need them to empty your bedpan. (Yuk!!)

Well I chuckled at a few of them... what do y'all think?

Three Cheers for.....
03.25.04 (6:38 pm)   [edit]
.... 24 hour drinking!! Hip, hip, horray!!.......(x3) Read y/day abt plans to introduce 24hr drinking from next year. I for one welcome the new move cos it reflects the changing lifestyles we live nowadays! (and I can get a drink whenever I want too!) :P Forget all that rubbish about it sparking an increase in binge-drinking and loutish behaviour, I for one think it will reduce that, cos there'd be no rush to get pissed anymore with the time restriction removed!!

Apparently, new laws will come into place and sweep away the old traditional 11pm closing time. In it's place, a flexible system that will allow pubs, bars and clubs to stay open later or even 24hrs a day, so long as they are granted permission by local councils. I'm assuming Labour thought this was a vote-winner seeing as the elections will be next year.... they bloody well guessed right! They have my vote... if I get round to it! :P

In as much as I welcome this new devlopment, I guess it would be irresponsible of me not to also mention summin about the effect binge-drinking has on young people like myself!(I dont binge btw!!) Stats say that alcohol-abuse claimed 22,000 lives last year and cost's the economy £20billion..... (awful huge number of hangovers I guess, or acohol poisoning!) The govt have also recently highlighted the increased in drink-related crimes in town-centres and attacked "irresponsible" promotions by the drinks industry.

Well, on the latter I have to disagree with the govt... of course I want "happy-hours" to remain, as well as "special offers like buy one get one free", as well as deals like "pay an entrance fee and drink ya self silly all evening for fee".... I can see the concern but with longer hours the need to consume as much alcohol in a limited period of time would no longer be valid cos there'd be no rush!

Furthermore, hasn't it ever occured to anybody that crime and disorder is probably at it's peak at 11pm when the pubs usually close? Now if they didnt close, people would wander home in drabs and dribs rather than the droves that you see on the streets come 11.30pm most nights of the w/end! I think 24hr pubs, bars and clubs will actually help reduce crime and anti-social behaviour..... but hey, what the hell do I know?! :?

Wish they'd start today, might just not turn up for work tomorrow.... hmmm- I can dream cant I?! :)

Support Group meeting....
03.25.04 (4:40 pm)   [edit]
After a forced hiatus, spent plowing thru reems of paper work.... I am finally free to blog away to my heart's content! Finally got my part of the report finished, kinda did a rush job, but hey that's there problem not mine! It's official y'all.... "Cyberpal is addicted to tblog and blogging in general" how else do you explain all the angst I've felt over the last few days when I've been on my forced hiatus away from blogland? :? Anyway, the main thing is... I'm back!!

Having said all that, I would like to apologize for the purely social note this blog is about to take! For those of you who have come to expect only top-notch, hard hitting analysis & tasty rants and tidbits from me......
I'm proud to announce the foundation of the Thursday Evening Drinking Club, a support group for young, dynamic, good-looking, preferably single, and loaded workaholics to rel;ax and chew the fat!! (I know, what the hell am I a member for then, right?..... asked myself the same thing!!)

We'll be kicking off our inaugural meeting this Thursday evening (as the name may have suggested to my more sagacious readers) at 8:30pm over at Bar 55 Degrees North, Pilgrim St, NE1 6BJ, 0191 XXX XXXX, here in Newcastle. A good time WILL be had by all, or I'm going to know the reason why!! :P So if you want to join the group, just holla and I'll see if I can swing you an invite! Bottom line...... I intend to get hammered!!

PS! More blogs to follow... just in a silly mood at the mo

Why oh why??
03.24.04 (9:47 pm)   [edit]
Had an interesting convo the other day with a female colleague of mine. She was pissed with her boyfriend for apparently telling her she needed to lose weight! :? Terrible I know.... the only snag being she asked him if she should lose some weight in the first place!! Now, I had to ask her why she asked him in the first place if she didnt want to hear what his answer was?... She says "just becos I asked him, doesn't mean I expect him to tell me the truth"... wtf?? You lost yet? Well, I was!! :?

Why is it that women ask questions they never really want to hear the true answers to? Why ask "Does my bum look big in this?" when you really want to ask "Do I look good in this?" Now that we can answer, I'd say "you look fantastic" but the former I've learnt never to answer either way!! Well, gave her this to read to try and get her to see where the b/f might have been coming from.....

Here is a true exchange that occurred between two people. See if you can learn something from it. It's bedtime and the couple are undressing for bed:

Wife, a former beauty pageant winner who had gained 80 pounds in the three years since marriage: "I'm sooo fat."

Husband, who had been hoping to get laid and is dismayed by this development: "You are terribly sexy. You've got great curves."

Wife, not letting it go: "Tell me: Am I the fattest woman you've ever fucked?" [Question for readers: What is the proper response to this? I can't imagine.]

Husband, wishing she would think about something else: "No, not even close."

Wife, who knows his two previous girlfriends had good figures: "WHO has been a lot fatter than me? Tell me the truth! Who?"

Husband, thinking the truth will be the best policy: "Well, there was this girl named Mary. I forget her last name. It was maybe ten years ago. She worked in the same office as my girlfriend at that time. My girlfriend said Mary hadn't had sex in several years because she was so fat no man wanted to. She asked if I'd have sex with Mary, you know, as a favor. Something nice you'd do for someone who needs cheering up."

Wife: "So, you had a date with her and then had sex?"

Husband: "No, she came over with my girlfriend, and the three of us had some wine and listened to music. Then my girlfriend said 'Why don't you two go into the bedroom?' So we did."

Wife: "And you had sex with her?"

Husband: "Yes."

Wife: "Did you like it?"

Husband: "I liked the fact that I was making her feel good."

Wife: "But you were repulsed by her weight?"

Husband, thinking back to that night and how it had made three people feel good about themselves: "Well, I tried not to think about what she looked like. The lights were low. My girlfriend looked kind of like Renee Russo, and I imagined I was with her, but with some big pillows squooshed around her."

Wife: "So you WERE disgusted by her weight!"

Husband: "Not the weight itself, exactly, but what it did to her. I mean, she had trouble walking, and that was painful to watch. And no way could she support herself on her hands and knees."

Wife: "Trouble WALKING? How fat WAS she?"

Husband: "According to my girlfriend, she stopped weighing herself when she got over five hundred pounds."

Wife, appalled: "So what other fat women have you had sex with?"

Husband, now utterly fed up and seeing no point in being tactful: "She got the gold. You get the silver."

In my opinion this man made a mistake by answering his wife's questions, but I'm not sure how I would have handled it differently. Refuse to speak? Pretend to have diarrhea and run to the bathroom? Feign an epileptic seizure? Anything, not to have to answer that question....

The point I'm trying to make here is that we men find it hard enough dealing with things like emotions, feelings, being tactful, being appreciative, giving compliments etc... having to give the correct answer to "time-bomb" type questions just aint fair!! :( Why ask me "if this or that outfit fits you best?" when the next question if I choose one is "why, doesn't that one look good on me?" Give us a break... we're only men you know, not friggin rocket scientist's!! :P Why oh why do you ask questions you dont want answers to?

Just my luck!!
03.24.04 (8:57 pm)   [edit]
Just when I thought I was free to blog myself silly, I get hit with another report! Apparently, my report was so comprehensive the guys upstairs requested that I be assigned to the team putting together the end of financial year reports..... like wtf?? You just cant win can you? Bad report would equal dress-down from my boss, good report equals extra work I didnt legislate for!! Just cant seem to chatch a break anywhere nowadays!! So, I've been up to my eye-balls in work all day.... help! get me outta here!!

Not much to report really. Y/day got home, put the laundry in, rustled up a snack, got me a bottle of chardonnay and just chilled out. (And yes I did drink the whole bottle... in case you were wondering!!) :P Phone was off the hook, mobile switched off and my front door securely locked..... no chance of any disturbances whatsoever!

This morning, well felt rested only for my demeanor to change when I heard the news abt the reports! Let's just say, what I mumbled isn't even printable here! So I'm done with all that for today, and I intend to write a few outstanding blogs I've wanted to post for a while now. Hope y'all are having better days than I am... I guess it goes without saying "Cyberpal's day isn't made until he's ranted abt summin" ..... well job accomplished!

Later peeps! :D

"Starsky & Hutch"
03.23.04 (9:21 pm)   [edit]
As promised here's my take on the new "Starsky & Hutch" movie out here in the UK March 19th. I have got to start off by saying ..."The car is still cool, the hair is still big, but this time around it's all about laughs..." This as far as I'm concerned is what sums the film up..Rubbish!!

I'm game for a laugh and most comedy-types get my vote, but I think it's sacrilege when you take a cult 70's TV show and make a mockery of it, the way they have in this. Remaking a Tv show is a tricky business anyway, so revamping an action-packed 70's cop show as a comedy is so so so so WRONG!! The makers in one foul swoop destroyed the everlasting memory of two cops, who epitomised the whole era of 70's machoism! :x

I even used to play "Starsky & Hutch" as a kid, and you know I was Hutch with the slick clothes... (even tho I was the wrong colour and all.... ) Using Stiller and Owen in the film, should have been a masterstroke.. if they had only stuck to the bleeding script and left it as a action-motion flick! The worse thing is that it was originally at Warners as an action movie, but the frigging director changed it all to a comedy with Stiller and Owen in mind! Why oh why??! :?

The film had a "Zoolander" type vibe to it! I mean wtf?? The only good things the movie had going for it was the whole 70's vibe, the red-and-white ford Torino, and the "Snoop Dogg factor" ..... that is until he took off his trousers and showed off those scrawny, chicken-leg type legs! What was he thinking???

Did I even mention the gay subtext in the film? I mean, come on..... what place would that have had in the 70's, in a cop show? I mean it came off like a rom-com between two straight guys... what's that about??

In a nutshell.....The Director Todd Phillips along with the stars have banded together to massacre my boyhood idea of 70's macho cops! This film SUCKED!!

Yay!!.....
03.23.04 (7:23 pm)   [edit]
.....Phew!! the "Report" is finally in, and I can breath a sigh of relief! The dreaded 'report' is the sole reason for my absence and hence no new updates over the past couple of days. It just had to be done, and the only way I'd realistically get it done was not to sign-on a computer until I was done. (Cos y'all know how addictive blogging has become!) Well, I'm done!! Yipeee!! :D .......Good thing too, was told over th grape-vine that my boss was gunning for me anyway and had complained about my extension of the deadline last week. Now you can imagine how pissed I was seeing as the mofo was quite amiable abt it at the time. Well f*%$ him! Got it done, and that as they say is that!! :P

So, not much to update about really. Got back to Newcastle late Sunday night, was in work whole of y/day slogging away on the report and most of today. Did take time out last night to go watch the new 'Starsky & Hutch' movie..... I'll be posting my review on that later! My brains are a bit mushed up at the mo, after all that concentration and whatnot, what I really need is a nice glass or two of wine tonight to unwind!

Missed y'all and your blogs and I intend to spend the rest of the day checking 'em out and blogging to my heart's content.....seeing as I do have a lot of blogging time to catch up on! Few more things to blog abt, but need to go get some grub, seeing as I missed lunch today just so I could get that blasted report finished on time. The only down-side to all that work I put in, is I've missed out on so much gist and stuff. So feel free to fill me in folks. Be back in a jiffy......

Weekend's over!
03.21.04 (10:02 pm)   [edit]
Just about to head off to the Station to catch my train. Hope y'all had a good w/end and mother's day(for those who live in the UK! :P )? London's been a blast, very relaxing as well as the excitement y/day at the match. Funnily enough, my lill' bro only just got in from B'ham abt an hour ago... the lill' runt! I love him really!! :)

So it's back to work 'moro and I just cant wait.... yeah right! Still havent done jack shit on that "report", but I'll have it done on time... I hope! This week should be a stress free one though, got the "Joe" concert at the weekend as well as a few friend's coming over for the w/end. So if you happen to be in Newcastle city centre over the w/end and see a bunch of guys having it large... that'll be me and the gang!

Peace out y'all, as always it's been a pleasure and never a chore! G'nite and catch y'all 2moro!

Mama's day!!
03.21.04 (3:08 pm)   [edit]
I darn nearly forgot, what today was! Thx gawd for my lill' bro, cos dayam would I have copped it big time if I hadn't called Mum today. As it goes, I had sent her a card 2 weeks ago just forgot it was actually today. Phew!! ......a close shave!

So I hope y'all remembered too? If not, head down the friggin store and get those cards and the remaining shrivelled up flowers and a box or two of chocs..... at least summin is better than nada! I must say, with Mum living abroad it's much cheaper! (I know, what a cheapskate!) well she knows I love her, prezzies or no prezzies, that's what counts aint it?! :?

So just went and got my Sunday papers, and will be watching the Sunday matches before I head back to Newcastle. Lovely day today, a bit chilly and windy but the Sun is out and the whole place just looks and feels like Spring is here already! Gotta go do my thing now, but I''ll holla before I head out!

Weekend so far......
03.20.04 (9:48 pm)   [edit]
Hey y'all :D ....greetings from London, just wanted to sign-on and holla at ya. I've been working pretty long hours every day for the past two weeks, what with the company gearing up for the end of financial year report as well as getting a test version of our software ready for the 'Shell boffins' to try out and approve. Finished late y/day evening, and I haven't touched a computer until now. I thought I'd make a quick posting in the blog.

Got in the wee hours of this morning, but had a pretty uneventful trip down. But aint it just typical, that my little brother who I came down to see is outta town for the w/end even tho we had arranged this yonks ago! The little blighter's only gone to Birmingham for the w/end with his flipping g/f. That's the thx you get for trying to do the caring, sharing, loving brother... well tough! he's on his own from now on...... or at least for a while then. If he wants to see mua, then Newcastle it is then!!

So anyway, it's been pretty relaxing. Got tickets to go watch Arsenal this afternoon at Highbury, just got back and it was worth it, just watching Robert Pires score a blinder of a goal! To top it all, my beloved Newcastle United beat Charlton 3-1 too. So as saturday's go, this was hasn't been too bad.... and the best thing is, it aint over yet!

Not having a car and having to commute to the 'burbs, has meant that I've missed out on the pleasure of seeing my friends in the city, not too worry maybe they'll come see me. For the first time in about five months, I didnt fly or drive down. I took the train .... Why you ask?? Well, I was just too tired to drive and it was way too late to get a flight out. Been for a spin around the neighbourhood on my brother's bike, and did some shopping. Went to Walthamstow Market, which has a different ryhthm on weekdays than it does on weekends, this being the only time I was able to visit.

While supermarkets are convenient, and even though Waitrose is a much better supermarket than most (especially when compared to its American counterparts), there's nothing like going to a bakery for baked goods, a butcher for meat, a fruit stand for fruits and vegetables, and so on. It was nice not to have to take a car to a shopping complex (or mall, as you yanks call 'em). Got some lovely bagel's for brekkie, and did grocery shopping for my bro, seeing as both cupboards and fridge were bare!!

I'm just waffling now, so I'm gonna go before I embarrass myself any further! Have a great weekend everyone, dont do anything I wouldn't and stay the hell outta trouble..... if you cant stay outta trouble, give 'em hell!! :D

My 1st Political Rant!
03.19.04 (7:31 pm)   [edit]
Was discussing my blog with a friend at lunch today and he asked me why I don't post much political stuff, since I have strong political opinions. I'll tell you why....

First of all, I spend a lot of time talking with a bunch of people who also have strong political opinions. One set of such groups is inhabited by people who I mostly agree with politically, but who are a darn sight better at expressing it than I am and who have much better political credentials than me. Then there's the work colleagues - when they start talking politics, I'm liable to get apoplectic.

A lot of these people aren't just strongly right wing, they're also the type of strong right wing people who "argue" by twisting what you've said and "refuting" the lie, by going off on irrelevant tangents, and who will not admit to being wrong, ever. So mostly I just shut up, and take out my pent out need to rant about poltics on poor friends!! But I will post a blog about how I feel abt America and Britain and their "supposed fight against terrorism"

The goal of terrorism is to fundamentally change the way your rights and freedoms are perceived. Terrorists want to make it so that their targets live in fear in the hope that that fear will force a change of attitude at a govermental level. I'd say close to what happened in Spain just recently, where the govt of the day (due to their own lackadaisical handling of the bombing's in Madrid) lost power. Now we can all hypothesize about the factual correctness of that assuption, but I challenge anybody to argue that 'Terror' didnt affect democracy in Spain last week!

If you accept these fundamental tenets of terrorism, it's quite possible that America and Britain along with their allies are losing the battle. The Bush administration is completely out of control, using the spectre of 9/11 to enact all kinds of legislation that contradicts the rights, freedoms and constitution of America. The British govt likewise detaining people with impunity and without cause. This is a fundamental change in attitude at govermental levels. Aren't the terrorist's winning? This shows countries living in fear, all because the people are letting the government get away with it.

The fear is that more legislation will be passed without proper debate to support the "War on Terror". The fear is that more rights will be stripped away. The fear is that your basic fundamental human rights will become a thing of the past. If you're living in the Western world and the thought of an American or British citizen being denied his right to counsel doesn't frighten you, you haven't thought things through. Are we returning to the world of the likes of the Gestapo, or the Secret Police in Eastern Europe?

In addition to passing legislation, agencies of the government have begun to take liberties with rights and freedoms. In one example, people who have demonstrated no threat to the security of the United States or Great Britain are treated like terrorists merely for expressing an opinion. Freedom of speech is the most fundamental and highly praised right in America and the Free World, and it's gone by the wayside. What abt bugging Kofi Annan's office at the UN?? What justification could any govt possibly have to do that?

The war, however, is not yet over. The people have a chance to make changes. An election is coming, and Americans have to let their voices be heard. Vox populi can save America, if it's loud enough... Likewise here in the UK, we'll soon have the chance to bring the govt to heel... The question is, "Will we take that chance or will we just go with the flow?" Either way the terrorist's are winning, and those of us who support freedom of any kind find ourselves living in perpetual fear and suspicion as well as having to deal with heavy-handed tactics of the govt's that rule our countries looking on in dismay.

I'm all for a "War on Terror", especially when you think of the atrocities carried out by these terrorist's in the name of one cause or the other. But when that war, becomes a war waged on a battefield that impinges on an individual's right to be free to have a different view... I draw the line! This brings me to a fundamental question: Is the war on terror being lost or won in your opinion? I'll leave you to decide that based on your own convictions, leanings and political opinions.

I for one, am not so sure it is!

"End of week report"
03.19.04 (2:53 pm)   [edit]
Hmmm - bit of a block thing going on today. So much to blog about, but when you take into consideration the lack of time and the scale of stuff I want to write, well just kinda finding it hard to prioritise and get them down in order of importance....... Having said that, they're all important right? so I guess I'll just have to work summin out! :P I should be doing that blasted "report", but I cant be arsed to do squat-diddley for now...so blogging it is!! :D

Well here's my end of week report:

This week has been quite a mix of the interesting and sometimes mundan;

On the personal level;

- Started off on Monday with tblog trying their damnest to piss me off, and of course they may still face a law suit for deprivation.

- My folks are definitely buying a house here in the UK, and pictures and info will soon follow.... when I get them of course.

- Totally pissed off by the atrocious bombings in Madrid last week (Still have a blog I'll want to write on that!)

- Celebrated St' Paddy's day & got pissed the day before! (Boys will be boys and all that....)

- Most importantly, I've got my dates for my trip to Texas to check out my digs, etc for my move later in the year!

On work-related things;

- AG where I work, is a very interesting place, with lots of really nice people (yeah right!!) .... There's that 'report' that is way overdue, but I've managed to get the deadline extended.

- Got headhunted this week too, I've been looking into job searches & stuff, but wasn't too chuffed with the benefits and the location either.... so it was a non-starter.

- Anybody know of a general workflow system targetted towards file system structures? Would really help.... just holla!

- And finally, I don’t know what’s going on, but it would seem that a great number of my co-workers have started their own blogs up too... wtf?? Isn't anything sacred anymore? :?

Anyways, have a nice weekend y'all, cos I know I will.... I'm off to London to see the Queen..... J/k! But will be in London for the w/end, thought I'd catch up with my little bro and see some friends..there's only that much of Newcastle one can take before boredom sets in! I'm sure I'll be back before the day's out to blog a bit more, but for now I'm off to meet my pal David for lunch... Cheerio!

I'm off the hook...
03.18.04 (9:29 pm)   [edit]
....Another day is over folks, and this blogger is about to check the hell out of this hum-drum place I call work. Btw the "dreaded meeting"- went well, got the extention to the deadline that I needed all without getting my arse chewed! Either the dude, was jet-lagged or he just wanted to let it slide... either way I wasn't making a fuss! Your homeboy, just sat there and listened to all of them try to impress him with what they had achieved while he was away!! No such luck with mua, nada to report! ... like I gave a damn anyway! :P

All I have to do now, is get off my backside and come up with summin that blows my boss away or my behind will be nailed to the office bulletin board for real! I've got it under control though... he says while contemplating "Hara-kiri" if all else fails!! :P

Going to dinner Jon and Seth, et al. We're all going to this Teriyaki place called "Tokyo" summin or other. Been there before, and the cashier was the happiest, smilingist Japanese lady I've ever met. The food was ace too! So more of the same tonight thank you very mucho!

Jon is super cool and acts as my sounding board when we're in the office. In short, the dude's my hommie.. period! And speaking of hommies, I'm having lunch tomorrow with my friend (and former mentor) David who is now in the Norwest group. Hopefully he can show me around the office building and stuff as well as maybe seeing if he can hook a broda up with a job that pays more than this one!

Right now I'm just abt to sign off on this Thursday evening. We shall see what the evening holds... Anyways, have a nice evening y'all, and I'll try very hard to enjoy the forcasted 6 degrees Celcius tonight. *sigh*

My Rant for today!!
03.18.04 (7:45 pm)   [edit]
Thought I'd get this off my chest before I go for 'that' meeting! Arrrghh!!

< Start rant >

- Microsoft sucks.

- Microsoft servers suck.

- Microsoft Exchange really, really sucks.

- Why do I get paid good money to spend lots of time supporting Microsoft products?

- Oh, that's right:

- Because they suck!!

- My bloody laptop is playing up and I'm late for my meeting.

- Thanks microsoft for sucking so much!!

- Oh yeah! did I say microsoft sucked?!

- Well they do!! Nuff said!!

< end rant >

Can't seem to get started...
03.18.04 (5:23 pm)   [edit]
Hey peeps, been one of those days. How y'all doing? I've had better days, and I have the distinct feeling it's only gonna get worse! :( The 'Boss' got back this morning and called a consultants meeting to give progress reports! (Progress?? what's that then??) so we are scheduled to meet at 6:30 this evening. I'm dreading it, bricking it, shitting myself!, whatever you wanna call it... cos I know my arse is gonna be on show for some arse-whipping!

I've been staring at the same "projection report" for 6 days now, unable to get started on it. I often have this strange hesitation to start big projects. (Actually, it seems like it's mostly anything that's going to have a "main presentation" in it.) The only snag being that my boss is gonna want either the 'report' or a semblance of a report this evening. The deadline was Tuesday

Normally I'd have snapped out of it, and started making good progress as soon as I'd figured out the whole thing in my head. Usually this process of figuring it out goes on while I do other stuff ........ like spend 6 whole days doing nothing but reading emails and blogs, surfing the web and playing Palm Pilot solitare. :P (I know, I know... my own fault!)

I shudder at the thought of having to explain this to my boss some day. Probably go like..."Why yes, you did pay me £xxxxxx to play solitare for 4 days as well as blog all day long, but you got your money's worth out of it, Honest!" Fortunately it's never come up. And I've had a few little projects or things where I've had to help other people. Sometimes I say "Ok, that earned my pay today" and go back to checking my email, and other times I say "Damn it, why can't I get started?" as I hit refresh on tblog for the 15th time that hour! :(

Heeeeellllppp!! I guess I'd better get my arse ready for some licks then..... the funny thing is tho, I still cant stop blogging even tho I know my behind is on the line. What's with that y'all?? I have got to get a grip on things!! :? Much more to write so little time, I'll zip round and check out y'alls blogs

Drives me Potty!!
03.17.04 (11:33 pm)   [edit]
Doesn't it just drive you potty?! (Rhetorical!)
The one thing that drives me crazy is how I often seem to think of decent ideas for a blog entry in places where I can't actually get to a PC to write it down. Most of the time this seems to happen when I'm in my car. Others it's like in the bathroom, on the loo, at the gym, or in a boring meeting!! :?

I come up with a great idea (if I say so myself!), then by the time I get to where I'm going (majority of the time is either home or the office), I get tied up doing stuff and can't get to a PC right away. By the time I get to it, the idea has passed, or I can't shape it into decent form because of the amount of time that has passed and end up discarding it.

It drives me crazy - so many great ideas, all slipping away. The only chance for these entries to survive is if I keep thinking about them, but the likelihood of that happening... well zero!!. :(

Like the one I had at lunch time in the pub, for the life of me I cant remember what the fuck it was... but this much I do know it was a humdinger of an idea!! :P I've got to get me one of those thingymijigs that peeps use to take notes on the go....

Anyways peeps I'm beat and I'm heading home to my watch the episode of ER that I taped... yes I watch ER, you got a problem with that?! hum?? Happy St Patrick's Day for the umpteenth time... but this ligger is done in and wants to chill at home with a glass of chardonnay and ER. Homely, right? Awwh shucks, I cant be macho all the time you know?!

All the best peeps, I'll have loads to blog 'bout tomorrow. My boss is back tomorrow and I still havent begun work on the project he left me on Monday... I'll think of some excuse before morning.. any ideas? Later y'all!

Answer Machines....
03.17.04 (9:50 pm)   [edit]
Answering machines piss me the fuck off!! But what really gets my blood pumping are the inane and often ill thought messages people leave on them..... for example ".... this is amy's phone, I'm not here at the moment leave a message..." ... Duh!! I know whose phoen it is, why the fuck did I dial it in the first place?! Or they have this tune playing in the background.. wtf?? If I wanted to hear this piss, I'd go watch top of the pops or summin!!

Just tried to leave a message for someone and got so hacked off with her message I just hung up half way thru!! The one that really had me apopletic the other day was a friends answer phone which lasts like a whole minute.... wtf? It's costing me to leave a message, when all I wanna say is "...holla at me when you're back!" Arrgh!!

Mine just says "Leave a message".... Cold I know, but simple and straight to the point with the minimum use of words. Very effective!

How hard is it?? :? Read the following joke somewhere, and have been tempted to use my version on someone.... might just do it someday!!

Did you ever hear one of these corny positive messages on someone's answering machine?

"Hi, it's a great day and I'm out enjoying it right now. I hope you are too. The thought for the day is: "Share the love." BEEP

"Uh, yeah...this is the VD clinic calling....Speaking of being positive, your test results are back. Stop sharing the love.." :P

Fancy a Guiness??
03.17.04 (3:10 pm)   [edit]
Hey, happy St' Paddy's day peeps!! :D Does anybody fancy a Guiness? You know, the black stuff... the nectar of the gods... leprachaun juice..... :P Cant stand the stuff myself, but I'm willing to make an exception and since I'm in need of a pick-me-up myself... I'm buying!!

Today has been a blur, I had an almighty hangover from last night and no I didnt pull our friend or get up to any hanky panky... well none that I can remember that is :?

Been taking it easy today, just about to go for a liquid lunch with the gang..... hare-of-the-dog or summin like that!! (told that a pint drunk slowly is the real hangover cure!!) I'll be back to blog after lunch, all the pubs, bars and restaurants are done up in green today to celebrate St' Paddy's (Patrick's for all you yanks!)... were off to join the celebrations!! Cya 8)

Off to get pissed!!
03.16.04 (10:53 pm)   [edit]
I'm off to have a few drinks (only a few!!) with the guys. Dont worry I'll have one for y'all too. We dont know where we are going actually, just gonna head into the city centre and take it from there.

Today has been a great day in relation to work, maybe cos I've done close to nada today... but I aint complaining! I'm a bit iffy about tonight tho... I get the feeling that a certain girl in my office is gonna make a move on my arse and I aint feeling her like that at all.

The thing is, she was very supportive and great when I was ill..... but your boy just aint feeling the vibes to get my groove on with her. :? One of the girls told me about 25mins ago, that she's planning to pull me tonight... whereas the only thing I want to be pulling is a cold one preferably of the alcoholic nature if you get my drift?? :P

It aint my fault if a broda is too damn fine for his own good!! And I swear I havent in any way led her on or at anytime given her cause to think I like her like that, what am I gonna do?? I intended to get pissed now, I'm thinking maybe sober is the way to go... seeing as beer-goggles have got me into trouble in the past (that's for another time!).

Peace peeps, as always..... been a pleasure and is never a chore. Gotta go, valuable drinking time is being wasted and the others are hollaring at me to get a move on..... any requests on the cocktails front?? :P

Payback!!
03.16.04 (8:05 pm)   [edit]
Yello peeps, just had to share this with y'all.... comment as you see fit!! Sometimes, you just want to have some fun... :P

I received a standard Nigerian 419 scam email again yesterday in my work inbox. So in a moment of humourous contemplation, I penned this reply just to show I wasn't having any of it:

[line]

Mr. Walters,

I have received your request for help, and I understand your plight.

Let me tell you a bit about myself. I have helped numerous Nigerian nationals in positions similar to yours (you'd be surprised at how many there are ....on second thought, given the socio-economic-political situation in your country, you probably wouldn't be...). Each time, the necessary transactions have been completed quickly, successfully and with complete and total discretion. Just last month, I helped Shemilla Aruba, widow of the late Deputy Minister of 419 Enforcement, recover $37.9 US million. My fee? A mere 10% rather than the 40% so generously offered by Ms. Aruba.

It is my experience in these matters that allows me to charge a mere 10%. Your generous offer of 30% is far more than I need. I make a nice living helping those less fortunate and the humanity of being helpful is compensation enough.

As it turns out, I am even more able to help in this matter than is typical. I have a command of the Korean language that will make it possible for me to be even more convincing than your typical shill. What's more, my previous work has helped to establish contacts that can provide me with forged documents equal to anything your government could produce.

As you can see, I'm making a very generous offer here. Instead of the 70% you and your colleague(s) were planning on sharing, you will receive 90%. My assistance will also help ensure that this money reaches you quickly and discretely.

I'm sure you're wondering "What's the catch?" Here it is. As I'm sure you can appreciate, a man in my position with my experience knows the best way to manipulate the banking system both here and in your country. In order to make this transaction as quick and discrete as possible, I ask that you forward an initial payment of $50,000 US to defray the setup costs on this end.

Once I have received and confirmed this amount in my account, I will make arrangements to transfer the money owed to you in and out of a special holding account. The initial setup takes approximately 2 days and, as Ms. Aruba can attest, the final transaction can then be completed within 3 days. That is 5 days from the receipt of your $50,000 US payment, you can have your 90% of USD$20.5 Million (Twenty Million! five hundred thousand United States Dollars).

I look forward to working with you. Please confirm receipt of this letter and I will forward you details for the initial $50,000 transaction. Please note that time is of the essence.

Yours Sincerely,

[line]

Oddly enough, I haven't received any more correspondence from Mr. Walters... now that's what I call spamming a spammer!! :P :P I know, I know ... what a genius I am..... let's put it this way, I hope that puts paid to the useless emails hitting my inbox from now on.

Easy - Street!!
03.16.04 (7:12 pm)   [edit]
So today, well I'm sure y'all be glad to know that I've had a relatively easy day filled with the all so common diatribe of work, work and obviously more bleeding work!! No really- hasn't been too bad today, might have summin to do with the fact that the bossman is outta town till Thursday so everybody has been taking a stroll down easy-street since morning. :) That's not to say I haven't done any work mind you.... :P

Aint it just bliss when you haven't got someone breathing down your neck, deadlines to meet, arses to lick, meetings to attend, projects to hand in..etc, Well, it is for me! I can safely say, today had been a laugh in the office. Even Barry who brown-noses for Great Britain (whether the boss is here or not, I must point out!)..loosened up a bit and took an extra 2mins on his break.... (gawd bless! ) So I'll leave it to your imagination how long I took..

So yeah it's easy-street over here in Newcastle upon Tyne folks and I also intend to come into work late tomorrow for good measure, cos we've all planned a night of drinks, food, clubbing and debauchery the likes we haven't had for ages!! :P For all you hard, commited workers out there ..... I say well done and to all you skivers like mua.... I say "Skive on!!" Be back in a tick

Last night.
03.16.04 (7:01 pm)   [edit]
Wrote this last night: Just couldn't be bothered to post it tho...

Another day ...... hmm and what a day it's been so far. I've definitely earned my pay today, in more ways than one! Lets just say the words "slave-labour" and "harrassment" spring to mind when I think of the shyte I've had to put up with today. Last night I didnt sleep till the early hours, was so tired I actually found it impossible to drop off. What a bummer!!

It has been a long day, and I got home today and was confounded by the fact that I couldn't find any of my plates. I looked around my kitchen for about 15 minutes before I found them. (They were in the dishwasher!) The only problem was I couldn't remember when I last ran it, but it must have been recently because they were all clean. But by then, the take-away was cold neways!

It was around that time that I discovered that I had also had clean laundry in the drier. This solved one of my problems, at least, I'll have fresh socks and you know what's .....to wear to work for the rest of the week. It seems that lightning doesn't strike thrice, however. I did not discover any food in my refrigerator nor in my cupboards!! :(

There was perhaps a larger point to this story. But I'm tired and I've forgotten it. Maybe that was the larger point - Who cares; I'm going to sleep now

Peace out!!
03.15.04 (11:34 pm)   [edit]

Be afraid.. be very afraid!! :P

Weekend Miscellany!!
03.15.04 (9:06 pm)   [edit]
Where does one start?? I'm so full of stuff to write I'm just about fit to burst!! There's Friday's, Saturday's, Sunday's and most of today's news to catch up on! :? Tblog have a lot to answer for, believe me!! But as long as I get a iron-clad guarantee that this kinda rubbish aint gonna happen again then I'll be ready to let it all slide!

Wrote this on Sunday afternoon:

Body Odour... yuk!!

Perhaps asking why people smell so nasty is a bit vague. Instead, I should probably ask why people smell like awful, awful crap. Yes, I'm familiar with the process in which the human body produces sweat, and how some people produce more sweat than others. What I'm not familiar with is how people can go days without showering, creating a horrendous personal odour that could easily be mistaken for the rubbish dump or dustbin!! I mean body odour is one thing, but the pong some people give off, gawd damit!! It's got to be illegal!

Seriously, how hard is it to shower every day? It takes ten minutes, or maybe 30 if you're narcoleptic. Even if you're morbidly obese, and have a lot of area to cover, it still shouldn't take all that long. The employees at the zoo can hose down an elephant in twenty minutes or less, so if you can find a garden hose and someone else at your house to help, showering shouldn't be difficult. Why am I ranting about this? Well, went to a club last night and boy oh boy was this place minging!! I'm sorry but either people have forgotten the art of using deodorant or more and more people are going without cleaning themselves.

Wow, the pharmacy must have given me "cruel sarcasm" pills this weekend instead of anti-depressants. Oh well. Who cares? Both the anti-depressants and cruel sarcasm pills make me feel good. But wtf is going on? :? You go to the Supermarket, your nostrils are assaulted by the pong of body odour, you go to the gym, same thing, go to the movies, even worse (I can tell ya), where can one go nowadays and not be engulfed by the pong which is B.O?? There are some people in this world who smell like a decaying food-waste rolled in poo, and they don't seem to realize that when they don't shower, no one wants to sit next to them on the bus. Since this is March, I think that perhaps they might have given up showering for lent.

Sigh. The lent jokes always flop here. Especially in March!! :P

But we're not here to talk about me. We're here to talk about people who don't shower every day. People who, when they sit in a chair for a lengthy period of time, transfer their vile stench to that chair like a deadly plague. If you're unlucky enough to be sitting next to them, it's almost guaranteed that an attractive person will walk past and think the smell belongs to you.

What are we to do about such people? You can't very well walk up to them and say, "Pardon me, but it smells like your diaper needs a change." Even if someone had the guts to say such a rude thing, the smelly people wouldn't believe you. After a while, people become immune to bad odours. It's like when hostages fall in love with their captors...... pongers fall in love with their smell!!

There's only one solution to this problem: Make it illegal to go a day without showering and even add jail sentences for people who foul up public places with their B.O!! ;)

Just sitting here thinking about the outrageous acts of terror carried out in Madrid. As much as I detest the use of terror to get a point across, you cant but see how the terrorist's seem to have brought the world to a standstill yet again. With the threat of bombings getting even closer to the Uk and the rest of Europe, I wonder who's next? Cos whether we like it or not, the terrorist's are no longer faceless people who live on different continents... they are now here in our cities, town centres, malls, stations, next door! I for one am worried about it, and I'm beginning to wonder about the otherwise safe option that used to be public transport.... Not scare-mongering but it is an issue now, aint it?? :?
